As you hear the slow drip, drip, drip of water hitting a sink or tub, you know that you have a leaking faucet. While you can ignore this for some time. However, did you know if you take care of the problem right when it happened it will save yourself some money. A typical leak of 10 drips per minute can waste up to a gallon per day, 30 gallons per month. Typically, this can cost you $1 per month. But if the slow drip turns into a faster drip say about 120 drips per minutes, the price just went up to $6 per month (depending on where you live).


Toilet leaks are another area we can see money getting wasted. You may not know when your toilet leaking. Most of the toilet leaks will leak right into the sewer line. Constantly running toilet can waste over eight gallons per hour. Depending on the rate you pay for water and sewer it could cost you up to $70 per month, and that is if you only have one running toilet in the house.

Burst pipes and or leaky pipes can be stressful and costly. The cost of the leaking pipe will depend on the location and if it has caused damage in the area. Burst pipes can be cause from a clog or freezing of the water in the pipe.


Moisture damage can result from a pipe burst or in general any leaking pipes. The repairs can cost anywhere from $450 and higher. For example if the leak is located in the basement and causes the basement to flood the price just to clean water out of the basement is on average $500 to $1,500 just to pump the water out and get the basement dried. The repairs of any water damage that might result can be up to $8,500 or higher depending on the size of the space and the extent of the damage.


Regular inspections and maintenance are cost effective and a good preventative measure. It is recommended if you have old fixtures and older plumbing to have them looked at by a plumber. They can help you decided the best course possible to fix the leaks and help you save money in the long run.
